BOTTLED WATER IS A CONVENIENT AND HEALTHY BEVERAGE CHOICE FOR EVERYONE.
Still or sparkling, high or low mineral content, it offers great diversity to suit every taste preference and/or requirement.
Bottled water is a healthy alternative for tap water that consumers may choose for several reasons, including taste, quality and convenience.
The bottled water category is developed as a new economic activity in the country's economy by the soft drinks industry. In less than 10 years (2000-2006) bottled water became the category with the largest market share in the consumption of soft drinks. The leading position of the bottled water category is a sustainable trend (2006-2016) - the share of bottled water from the consumption of non-alcoholic beverages in all categories is more than 40%. Bottled water is also the fastest growing segment of the food sector in Bulgaria.
Legislatively, within the EU, there are three main types of bottled waters:
- Natural mineral water
- Spring water
- Bottled drinking water (table water)
Bottled water can also be still or sparkling.
Bottled water distinguishes itself from other waters thanks to its unique composition and original purity. The European Union has laid down specific rules for natural mineral and spring waters, which characterise them clearly.
The table below provides a clear overview of the differences between these types of water.
Variety of Bottled Water
Bottled waters are all unique and provide consumer with a great variety with guaranteed quality.
Did you know that there is a great variety of bottled water and although they all seem the same, they are not.
Each brand of natural mineral and spring water has its own distinctive taste, a unique set of properties and specific mineral composition which is derived from the geological conditions present in the area where the water is abstracted. This subsequently determines its natural flavour or taste.
Table water producers also rely on the uniqueness of their brand by applying the most advanced treatment and/or enrichment technologies.
